Diet Pills: Boon or a Bane?
The desire to achieve weight loss fast and cost effectively has become a worldwide phenomenon and even obsession nowadays. This is quite understandable as many people are obese and obesity is pandemic in most of the affluent societies of the world, where fat rich foods are consumed in abundance. The fact that the presence of a paunch in males is seen as a sign of prosperity bears testimony to this.
Apart from dieting and exercise, many people also adopt diet pills as a means of losing weight. Diet pills are essential products which pharmaceutical companies launch and which claim to help users to lose weight at a heightened pace, much faster than regular weight loss techniques. There are quite a few types and brand names of diet pills like Fat Absorber TDSL, Xenical, Meridia and many more. Herbalife is also has its own variety of diet prescriptions which it claims can help one lose weight fast.
The most common technique or impact of these diet pills is in the arena of appetite suppression and reduction. These pills have a direct effect on the chemistry of your body, and in turn its cravings or desire for food ingestion. This is quite simple and one does not need to be Einstein to figure this out.
There is a direct psychological linkage between the mood and one’s appetite. In some cases, when you are happy and blithe, you tend to have a healthy appetite. On the other hand, when you are ill or feeling somewhat low, your appetite could be hampered that you do not want to eat much. Scientists have observed and proven the linkage between the sympathetic nervous system and human appetite.
When the body is in a state of great anxiety and nervousness, it does not crave for food. Imagine being shouted at work by your boss or facing an urgent deadline at office. Do you really ever feel hungry in such cases? The answer is an emphatic no, as these feelings or situations of flight and flight when the body secretes adrenalin act as effective appetite suppressors. However, it is essential that you come back to a normal, steady and relaxed state after some time because prolonged anxiety can harm your body and metabolism.
Diet pills are designed to trick your body into going into a state of severe nervousness by acting on the nervous system with the desired effect being appetite suppression. Normally, these effects are quite prolonged, unlike in the normal manner when the body comes back to the rest state quite fast in a bid to maintain equilibrium.
The above methodology indicates the convoluted way in which diet pills act. These could have very harmful and even dangerous effects on the body as these induce a state of prolonged nervousness, anxiety and high blood pressure. In addition, diet pills could also cause heart attacks and palpitations, vomiting and loose motion, which is some of the other symptoms. In severe cases, patients can get hallucinations and urinary tract infections too. Not a pretty picture at all!
If you are moderately obese and your obesity is not life threatening, it’s best to avoid diet pills. In life, there are no short cuts to lasting and real success in weight loss. So, have your diet properly and exercise well to lose weight legitimately and the healthy way!
