Here is the big secret to gaining washboard abs; lower your body fat! Have you ever noticed that the people who have great abs are people who have low body fat? You can do a million sit ups every day for a whole year, but if you have too much body fat, your ab muscles still won’t show. The number one most important factor in getting six pack abs is to lower your calorie intake and start losing weight. Getting great abdominals has absolutely nothing to do with those “magical” machines you see on the infomercials with people claiming they got a six pack from using the machine. The fact is that we all have those six pack, perfect abs, we just can’t see them because they hide behind our body fat. The key to actually showing your abs is to have a low body fat.
How To Lower Your Body Fat
Well, how do I lower my body fat you ask? First, you must understand that lowering your body fat doesn’t necessarily mean you will lose weight. Most of the time when you lower your body fat, you replace the body fat with muscle, which actually weighs more than fat. It is very healthy to lose as much body fat as you can while replacing it with muscle. The first step in lowering your body fat is to lower your calorie intake. Spend a week keeping track of how many calories you take in each day. At the end of the week, count up each days caloric intake, and subtract it by 500 calories. That is the new number of calories you want to take in. This is guaranteed to help you lose weight. Second, while subtracting calories and attempting to lose weight, you want to stay active with exercise. Make sure you do some cardio exercises, like running on a treadmill, using an elliptical, or even taking a walk or run around the block. Lastly, you want to make sure you do some exercises that include muscle building. Lifting free weights, bicep curls, pull ups, bench press, etc. Basically, you want to focus on exercises that build muscle.

- Increase your muscle by lifting free weights and exercising
- Eat healthy food by staying away from fried food and food high in calories
