Tips for helping your teenager lose weight
The teenage years are of some of the toughest period your child will face. One of the many challenges he would have to face is teen obesity. Dieting can be very difficult especially with teenagers who end up on crash diets that are unhealthy for them. For your teen to be successful in loosing weight, he will need a lot of help.
Tips for helping your teenager lose weight
Get Educated: Your first step is to consult your doctor or dietitian about your child’s obesity. Your doctor should be able to let you know if your child’s obesity is caused by a medical condition. He should be able to advice you on the best diet and exercise for your teenager.
Family support: If you want your teenager to be successful in loosing weight, your child will need all the support he can get. Support your teenager and also have your other family members encourage him. It’s much easier for teens with a family support network to lose weight much quickly compared to those who are doing it alone.
Eating Healthy: Teenagers don’t become obese overnight. Obesity is caused by constant accumulation fat deposit through years of eating poorly. As a parent, you need to reduce the amount of junk food around the house. Encourage a healthy eating habit by setting examples. Replace sodas in your home with water or diet sodas.
When serving meals, you need to control food portion and compulsive eating. Cutting down portions discourages overeating. Overeating can lead to dangerous food disorders.
Encourage your teenager to eat more fiber on and off the table. This will keep them full and will help them not to eat too much. Fruits and vegetables are good sources of fiber.
Teen Exercise: Encourage your teenager to exercise as much as possible. Teens who are active tend to lose weigh more quickly compared to those who are sedentary. If you teen is not used to physical exercise, encourage them that exercising will help them build muscle and change their physical appearance for the better.
You should be watching out to make sure that your teenager is loosing weight safely. Slow and steady weight loss is the best method of loosing weight. You teen should be loosing no more than 2 pounds a week at most.
Encourage your teenager to keep away from diet pills and fad diets. They are dangerous and can seriously damage your child’s health.
